Children and young adults need constant support and advice, and this service is provided by the Guidance Counselor. To enable the students to become mature and well-mannered, the Guidance Counselor Resume states the execution of the following duties – developing and implementing overall educational and counselling plans with innovative technology and mentoring; paying attention to societal or cultural differences of students, assessing student’s attributes and helping them in realising their strengths; evaluating the progress of the students; identifying behavioural problems, and presenting reviews on student’s progress. On the job, the following skills are required – integrity and professionalism, ability to work with a wide range of student backgrounds and personalities; clear communication and mentoring skills, education in various models of teaching, high emotional intelligence abilities; and basic computer knowledge. Earning a degree in education, psychology or sociology is the first step towards becoming a Guidance Counselor. To enhance career advancement, a master’s degree in counseling will be needed.
