Physiology is the science of living systems. It explores the function of organs and body systems. On this course you will gain a broad understanding of healthy and diseased function. This ranges from a molecular and cellular level to exploring what happens when issues like metabolic and neurodegenerative disease are present. You’ll look at the clinical aspects of physiology. The focus will be on how body systems can be fine-tuned or optimised. This will also focus on how disease can be prevented or treated. Our course curriculum is shaped by the work of our world-leading researchers to make sure you’re learning the latest advances. This will also help you gain an understanding of the fundamentals of the field. The first two years of your degree will cover concepts such as: evolution biological organisation molecular mechanisms and processes You will develop your practical skills such as laboratory skills, data analysis, and experiment design. This will prepare you for designing and carrying out projects later in your course. Years three and four will cover these concepts in more detail. You will also carry out a semester long research project based around one chosen area of the current world-class research in Life Sciences. Throughout the duration of the course, you have the flexibility to pick modules that appeal to you, highlighting to future employers where your interests lie.
